Wichita Wings News Release
Wichita, KS - The Wichita Wings (6-9) fell hard in a 10-19 loss against the Rochester Lancers (6-10) on their home pitch Friday evening. As hard as they tried, Wichita would not be able to overcome the scoring power of Doug Miller, Maurico Salles and Andy Tiedt who combined for 11 points on the night, leading Rochester to victory.
The first quarter was a brawl between both clubs, with little point production. Mauricio Salles, second in scoring on the team for Rochester, hit the first goal of the night for the Lancers, giving them a 3-0 lead. Andrew Hoxie came up big for the Wings, converting a goal from a pass off the boards courtesy of Kevin Ten Eyck to bring the score 3-2, which would remain unchanged through the end of the quarter.
Doug Miller, tied for first in scoring in the MISL, hit a second goal for Rochester at the 10:53 mark of the second quarter to extend their lead to 5-2 over Wichita. Rochester Goalkeeper, Patrick Hannigan, received a blue card for touching the ball outside the box, awarding Tiguinho a lone shot versus the keeper, but he would be unable to convert. Andrew Hoxie would continue the action for the Wings by scoring his second goal of the night off an assist from Victor Quiroz to bring the Wings within one in a score of 4-5. Wichita created several scoring opportunities but were not able to finish before halftime arrived.
At the opening of the third quarter, Evan McNeley and Stephen Basso hit back-to-back three-point goals in Rochester's favor, handing the Wings a sudden eight point deficit to make the score 11-4. Salles would tap in a two-point goal off an assist from Jake Schindler to extend the Lancer's advantage partway through the third quarter. Elliot Fauske and Kareem Yearwood would come up in a tangle that resulted in blue cards on both players. With both teams down a man, Wichita would be the only one to make good on the extra space when Tiguinho hit goal for the Wings to bring them within seven of the Lancers by the end of the quarter.
Problems continued for the Wings in the fourth quarter as forward Andy Teidt scored the first goal early on to extend the Lancers lead. Wichita placed the sixth attacker with six minutes left to go in regulation, determined to create more scoring opportunities, which came to fruition when Freddy Moojen knocked in a goal late in the quarter to bring the score to 8-15. From then on, it turned into a stalemate as Kyle Manscuk answered back with a goal on the sixth attacker, followed by Freddy Moojen's second goal of the night to bring the score 10-17. Any hope the Wings had of completing a comeback were shot when Andy Tiedt scored the final goal of the night to end the game 10-19 in favor of the Lancers.
