Wichita Wild News Release
WICHITA, Kan. -The Wichita Wild (7-2) set out to bounce back from a tough road loss Saturday night in Hartman Arena against the Kansas Koyotes (0-9), and that is exactly what they did with a strong 52-14 win. With the return of star quarterback, Rocky Hinds, the Wild offense was in full swing as he went 13-19 for 195 yards with three passing and one rushing touchdown. The Wild defense was just as impressive holding the Koyotes scoreless through the third quarter and allowing just 14 total points.
Tywon Hubbard opened the quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run just three minutes in to give the Wild a 7-0 lead. On a third down situation, DB Dan Kontz picked off Koyotes QB Carlos Cavanagh on their first possession, leaving the Wild offense to pick up where it left off. QB Rocky Hinds connected with receivers twice in the quarter, first on a 17 yard pass to Joe Kassanavoid followed by Rashad Daniels on a 40 yard pass to give the Wild a 21-0 lead.
The second quarter was just as explosive for the Wild on both ends of the ball, while the Koyotes struggled to find an offensive rhythm. The Wild defense held strong, keeping the Koyotes out of scoring position. Hubbard earned his second score of the night off a 16-yard run on fourth down to give the Wild a 28-0 advantage over the Koyotes. Kansas came dangerously close to a score off a long kick return on their next possession, which resulted in a touchdown but was called back on a penalty, giving the Wild defense another chance. Led by Brandon Jenkins, the Wild held the Koyotes to a field goal attempt which was missed wide-right by Kansas kicker Derek Doefler, to leave the Wild in the lead. Hinds found Chris Hemphill with an eight yard floater for another touchdown to put the Wild up 35-0 to end the first half.
Little action came in the third quarter for either team until the 3:25 mark when Latavious Davis, blocked a Koyotes field goal attempt to give Wild first and goal at the 4 yard line, resulting in a field goal by Lacayo for a 38-0 lead. The Koyotes finally managed to get on the board in the fourth quarter off a pass from QB Stanley Jennings to WR Terrell Downey to make the score 38-7. The Wild shot back with a one yard run by Hinds to give the Wild a 45-7 lead. The Koyotes came back with a long pass from QB Carlos Cavanagh to WR Chris Davis for another touchdown to make the score 45-14. Junior Allen added to Wild scorers of the evening with a short run of his own to extend the Wild lead and DB Kendrick Harper wrapped up the win with a pick to give the Wild a 52-14 victory and extend the Wild's win streak to 16-0 since 2012.
