Wilmington's Irving, Watson Take Coach of the Year and MVP Honors

RICHMOND, VA - United Soccer Leagues announced its final awards for the 2009 USL Second Division season at the USL-2 Championship banquet, honoring Richmond's Yomby William as Defender of the Year. Wilmington duo David Irving and Jamie Watson garnered the Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards, respectively.

William earned the Defender of the Year title after helping guide the Kickers to a tie for first in the league with 39 points and a record of 11-3-6 after playing in 18 of 20 matches and contributing two assists. With William anchoring the back line, Richmond finished with the fewest goals allowed in the league at 18, two better than Baltimore and five better than third-best Harrisburg. The native of Cameroon signed with the Kickers from the Puerto Rico Islanders prior to the 2009 season and earned USL-2 Team of the Week honors seven times, more than any other Kickers player.

The Richmond Kickers host the Charlotte Eagles in the USL Second Division Championship this Saturday, August 29th. Kickoff is slated for 8:00 p.m. at the University of Richmond Stadium. The match will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel at 11:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $15, youth and adult, and are on sale now via RichmondKickers.com. Season Passes, Pro Passes, Sponsor Passes and Flexi-Tickets are not valid for this match. All-Access Passes will be accepted.
