Wilmington Hosts Harrisburg Saturday

July 5, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads are set to host the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium on Saturday, July 6, just three days following their draw with the Orlando City Soccer Club. Wilmington has remained undefeated at Legion Stadium in their last five consecutive home matches this season.

When the Hammerheads last encountered the City Islanders, each side remained scoreless within the first half of the match. Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead early in the second half as the ball was deflected off of Wilmington goalkeeper Philip Tuttle from a corner kick and into the back of the net. Harrisburg was able to take an advancement into the match when Wilmington was brought down to 10 players and midfielder Daniel Steres was sent off after bringing down Harrisburg's Stephen Basso, later resulting in a 2-0 victory overall.

Harrisburg currently trails leader Orlando City two points in the league standings, placing them in second. The Hammerheads prevented Orlando City from gaining a larger deficit after they allowed them to only gain one point in the rankings after Wednesday night's 2-2 draw.

With nine matches left in their regular season, Wilmington is still looking to secure a spot in playoffs. Of those nine matches, six are scheduled as home field advantage for the Hammerheads.

The Wilmington Hammerheads will travel in-state to face the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, July 13 at Queens University for their next road match.
