Wilmington Host MLS NY Red Bulls Reserves

June 11, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads will host their sixth match a Legion Stadium this season when they welcome Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls Reserves on Saturday, June 15.

Saturday's game will be regarded as a regular season scheduled match for Wilmington with the result counting towards official league standings. This match is a product of the recent affiliation between Major League Soccer and USL PRO that was confirmed earlier this year having each USL PRO team play home and away versus an MLS Reserves team during the 2013 season.

The Hammerheads are scheduled to travel to Red Bull Arena on Sunday, June 30 with scheduled kick off still TBD.

The Red Bulls (2-2-0) will play the Hammerheads (3-8-1) back-to-back in their reserves schedule. In 2012, forward Corey Hertzog was on loan to the Hammerheads from the Red Bulls, making an instant impact to the squad during his addition halfway through the USL PRO regular season. Hertzog went on to become the Hammerheads' leading scorer last season with nine goals in 17 matches, while also tallying five assists.

Wilmington's Steven Perry recently earned the team's first point on the road this season in a 1-1 draw with the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night. Richmond's Philippe Davies took the first goal of the evening in the 78th minute of play with a long shot out, only to be followed by Perry's equalizer in the 79th minute.
