Manchester Wolves News Release

The Manchester Wolves are proud to announce that the fourth player from their 2006 team to move up to the ranks of the Arena Football League is Wendall Williams, their talented Wide Receiver/Line Backer. Williams has signed a contract to play for the Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League.

Williams (5-11, 190), a rookie from the University of Rhode Island, shined late for the Wolves in 2006, as he hauled in 56 passes for 647 yards and 17 touchdowns in just 11 regular season games. Defensively, Williams collected 24.0 total tackles, one interception, one pass breakup and one forced fumble, while as a kick returner in two games tallied 163 yards and one touchdown on nine attempts. In the Wolves two playoff contests Williams led all Wolves' receivers with 245 yards on 15 catches along with four touchdowns. Williams caught at least one touchdown or more in his last nine games for the Wolves.

"Wendall is going to be an impact guy in the AFL," said Wolves' Head Coach Ben Bennett . "He's as hard to tackle as anyone I've seen in either the af2 or AFL. He truly deserves this opportunity and should really contribute this season."

The Lanham, MD native came to the Wolves after a versatile career at the University of Rhode Island where the First Team All-Atlantic 10 player was one of the Rams most explosive offensive options, catching 23 balls for 436 yards and four touchdowns, carrying the ball 85 times for 671 yards and three scores, while also being the team's top kick returner (collecting another two touchdowns). Williams' professional experience includes stints with the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers and NFL Europe's Cologne Centurions in 2005 before joining the AFL's Championship Colorado Crush team where he collected a ring as a member of their practice squad.

Williams could be in line to see some serious playing time, as he is now just the third wide receiver listed on the Kats depth chart.
