San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the SaberCats announced today that wide receiver Fred Williams and defensive back Ken Fontenette have earned weekly honors from the AFL for their performances this past Saturday in San Jose's 72-42 win over the Arizona Rattlers. Williams received the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while Fontenette was named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week.
Williams (6-0, 195, St. Cloud State) turned in a dynamic performance on the outside versus Arizona. He finished with a team-high ten catches for 121 yards and five touchdowns in the win. He scored three touchdowns in the first half and the first of the second half to put the game out of reach. He also eclipsed the 1,000 yard plateau on the season for the first time in his career.
Fontenette (5-11, 200, Houston) was everywhere defensively for San Jose in the win over the Rattlers. He notched eight-and-a-half tackles (eight solo), along with three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. He also returned an interception 20-yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to earn AFL Highlight of the Game honors. Both of his turnovers came in the second half, stemming any hopes for an Arizona comeback. The former Houston Cougar is also the team's leading tackler, with 70.5 (66 solo).
