San Jose Stealth News Release
(San Jose, CA) --- In a low scoring battle with serious playoff implications for both teams, the San Jose Stealth (8-6) came out victorious 9-8 over the Edmonton Rush (6-8) tonight at HP Pavilion. With the win, San Jose clinches their first playoff berth since the 2004.
The Stealth were led by Luke Wiles (3G, 2A) and Colin Doyle (2G, 3A) who each tallied five points in the win. Anthony Cosmo registered the victory in net, making 45 saves and holding Edmonton to only eight goals. San Jose went 2-8 on the power play.
Similar to the format of last night's 9-8 victory over Portland, the Stealth took an early lead, only to fight back for their victory in the fourth quarter. Luke Wiles opened the scoring for San Jose with back to back goals at 00:32 and 10:04 of the first and Gary Rosyski would add another on the power play at 13:52. Edmonton tallied their first score at 14:58 and the quarter ended with San Jose up 3-1. Edmonton added two goals at the start of the second quarter and San Jose countered with a score by Cam Sedgwick. The half ended with the Stealth up 4-3.
Edmonton bounced back in the second half, scoring three straight goals and taking their first lead of the game 6-5. The Stealth countered with four of their own, from Colin Doyle, Jeff Zywicki (2) and Luke Wiles to regain the lead. AJ Shannon ended the Stealth's scoring streak by netting his first goal of the game at 9:46 to make it 8-7, but San Jose fired back with a goal by Colin Doyle at 11:34 to increase the lead 9-7. Edmonton would add the final tally of the game on the power play, but stellar fourth quarter goaltending by Anthony Cosmo allowed the Stealth to hang on for victory, 9-8.
Next week, the Stealth will battle the defending NLL Champions, the Colorado Mammoth in back to back games starting Thursday, April 12. San Jose, who currently ranks third in the Western Division can overtake Arizona for second place with two wins over Colorado, and in turn host their first playoff game at HP Pavilion.
