Wildcatters Re-Up with Top QB and Load up at Receiver
December 18, 2009 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Lafayette Wildcatters News Release
Lafayette, LA (December 18, 2009) - Following a season in which they fell short of reaching the Southern Indoor Football Championship Game in 2009, the Lafayette Wildcatters decided to make offense a major priority this off-season as they re-signed Quarterback Bo Bartik along with the signings of some new weapons at wide receiver.
After a season in which Bartik finished tops in the SIFL with the most passing yards (1,427), Lafayette Head Coach John Fourcade decided that in order for Bo to succeed in 2010 he would need some new weapons at receiver. The signings of Antoine Burks (6'4 200, Mississippi State) and Clyde Edwards (5'10 181, Grambling State) should help fill that missing gap.
Once a highly touted high school prospect out of Harrison Central High School, Antoine Burks came out of the Magnolia State as a member of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2004. After two years of attending Gulf Coast Community College, Antoine transferred to Mississippi State University in 2006 and collected 68 receptions for 1,294 yards and 8 touchdowns during his two years as a Bulldog.
Before most notably signing as an un-drafted free agent with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, Clyde Edwards was an annual Biletnikoff Award watch nominee during his time at Grambling State University. Through his four years as a Tiger, Edwards amassed 191 receptions, 3,099 yards and 35 TD's. His 191 receptions rank him second all-time in Tigers history.
Coach Fourcade also re-signed offensive lineman Adam Durham, Damion Jones in addition to signing Ian Matherne (Southeastern Louisiana) to a unit that only allowed eight sacks in 2009.
"It's great to have players like Bartik who know the arena game," says Lafayette Head Coach John Fourcade. "I'm looking at these new players to come in and join with our core from last year and help us bring home the championship as we still have many more spots left to fill."
Not to be outdone defensively either, the Wildcatters also re-signed linebacker Mitch Craft, defensive back Terrell Sutton while also signing former Columbus Lions defensive back Chris Goffer. Out of Youngstown State, Goffer finished the 09 season getting five interceptions, 28 tackles (24 solo), and one touchdown for the Lions.
Stay tuned, as the Wildcatters will be having another tryout before the kickoff the 2010 season. Log onto www.lafayettewildcatters.com or call the front office at 337-704-2897 for more information.
