Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Glens Falls, NY â Not able to make their first game on Thursday due to travel difficulties, the Brevard Blue Ducks traveled late last night from Pennsylvania to Glens Falls, New York to be sure they were there for their Sunday match-up against the Wildcats.
They probably wish they hadn't.
Playing hard against the Cats, following two tough defeats at the hands of the ValleyDawgs, Brevard lost a tough one, 101-97 in overtime.
Tied 90-90 with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Brevard had a chance for the lead and possibly the win, but Terrence Shannon's 15-foot floater with 17 seconds left on the clock didn't go. Adirondack then had a chance for the win in regulation, but Harold Swanagan's lay-up with 4 seconds left was blocked by Simeon Haley.
But Kevin Morris' started the overtime with a 4-point play, on a 3-point shot and a foul and the Wildcats never looked back as they handed the Ducks their 3rd loss in a row to drop them to 3-3 on the season.
"Unfortunately, we ran into some hot hands on this road trip," quipped Blue Ducks coach, Derek Howard. "Wherever we went, someone from the other team had a season-high game."
This time it was Wildcat's guard Kevin Morris, who had hit 5 three-pointers all season. Against the Ducks, he sank six, on his way to 24 points. Adirondack placed five players in double figures.
"There are two ways to look at this," said team owner, Mike Richman. We were very competitive tonight, which was good. Especially following two blowout losses to Pennsylvania. We came out with intensity and played them even. We just lost a tough one."
Brevard was actually ahead at the half, 49-46. Adirondack pulled even at the end of the third, 68-68 and that's the way it stood at the end of regulation. Adirondack outscored them 11-7 in OT for their final margin.
Terrence Shannon and Darryl Hardy continued their hot hands, scoring 28 and 21 points, repectively, for the Ducks. Ike Spencer registered a double-double, with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Duck Notes: The Ducks return home tomorrow and host Adirondack Wednesday, May 7th at the Clemente Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
Hoping to take full benefit of their home court advantage, the Blue ducks will be hosting area schools at their games Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, offering two-for-one tickets. Friday's (9th) contest is also against Adirondack and starts at 7:00 PM.
Saturday's (10th) game against the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs marks the return of Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins to Brevard.
Sunday's Mother's Day contest will be promoted as "Bring Your Mom Chocolate for Mother's Day." All moms will be given free admission to see Brevard take on Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins' Pennsylvania ValleyDawg team in the second of their back-to-back games. Sunday's contest begins at 5:00 PM.
