Wildcats heading to Albany, Georgia

October 29, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Atlanta businessman Mike Storen of Celebrity Services, Inc. has entered into a partnership with current Cape Fear Wildcats operator Robert L. "Roddy" Jones by purchasing a 49 percent share of the team, which will relocate from Fayetteville, NC to Albany, GA and be known as the South Georgia Wildcats beginning with the 2005 season, the league office announced today.

While Mr. Jones will retain a majority interest in the team, Storen's group will operate the club and work towards a complete purchase by the end 2005. All home games will be played at the Albany Civic Center.

Chris Siegfried will remain the team's head coach. Siegfried, 35, has served as the Wildcats head coach since the team's inception in 2002. He has posted a 35-13 regular season record and qualified for the playoffs each season, going 3-3 in postseason action including an appearance in the American Conference Championship game in 2002.

Last season, Siegfried guided the Wildcats to a 12-4 mark and a win over the Birmingham Steeldogs in the First Round of the 2004 ArenaCup Playoffs. Prior to joining the Wildcats, Siegfried served as offensive coordinator for the Macon Knights. The Knights ranked fifth in the league in scoring offense in 2001, averaging 50.9 points per game.

Siegfried is the first former af2 player to serve as a head coach. His final year as a player was in 2000 as a wide receiver/ defensive back for the Augusta Stallions. During that season he hauled in 65 receptions for 709 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense and tallied 49 tackles and one interception on defense. Siegfried also played in the AFL and CFL during his professional career.

Siegfried holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. He and his wife Tammi have a four year-old son, Kody and a two year-old daughter Baylee.
