Wildcats Drop Two To Topeka
November 19, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
A little home cooking didn't help the Cats as they lost to the Roadrunners 4-0 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday.
Â
Topeka scored all of their goals in a span of just over eight minutes in the second period on Friday, taking advantage of some Wildcats defensive miscues. Ross Trousdale scored the first on a two-on-two, splitting the Wildcats defense and putting one past goaltender Mike Jarboe. Seventeen seconds later, a misplayed puck by Jarboe led to Edgars Lipsburgs finding the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Almost six minutes later, Topeka scored on the power play for a 3-0 lead. The Wildcats changed goaltenders, bringing in backup netminder Philip Graveline, who allowed one to Jordan George for the 4-0 lead.
Â
Saturday's game resulted in the Wildcats finally getting a goal past the Topeka defense, coming unassisted from newcomer Augie Hoffman in the second period, but the Roadrunners power play went 5 for 10 to take a 5-1 game.
Â
"We were undisciplined out there," said Wildcats' head Coach John Bowkus. "The guys feel [really bad] right now down in the locker room." The Wildcats were whistled for 26 minutes of infractions, 20 minutes of which resulted in a man advantage for Topeka. After Hoffman's goal, the Wildcats were outshot by the Roadrunners 28-8.
Â
"We still have some guys who aren't buying into our system, and we need everyone on the same page," Bowkus said. "Hopefully this is rock-bottom for us and we can get turned around soon."
Â
The Wildcats play next in Springfield, IL against the Junior Blues on Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 22. Over the next three weeks, the Wildcats will play on the road in Springfield, IL; Topeka, KS; and then back to Springfield once more. Their next home games are Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13 against the St. Louis Bandits.
