Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Wichita Falls Wildcats concluded their first-ever "Hockey Heals Hunger" campaign this past weekend, capping off a successful month-long initiative to fight hunger in North Texas.

Through the support of fans and the Wichita Falls community, the Wildcats collected 1,104 pounds of food for the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank over four games in the month of November.

"We are very pleased with the success of our first 'Hockey Heals Hunger' campaign," Wildcats President and General Manager Paul Baxter said. "We knew we could count on Wildcats fans to rally behind a great cause, and we look forward to working with WFAFB to make next year's campaign even more successful."

While the WFAFB receives much of their inventory through state and federal programs, Development Director Betsi Lujan was quick to highlight the Food Bank's need for additional donations from community partners, such as the Wildcats.

"If it weren't for these type of large donations, it would be very difficult to provide the food necessary to those individuals in need," said Lujan. "Because of community partnerships like the one we have with the Wildcats, we were able to increase donations to the Food Bank, and they were able to give back to the community while providing great family entertainment."

The organization's charitable efforts continue next month with the Wildcats Hockey Toy Drive on Dec. 5 and 6 when the Wildcats host the Corpus Christi IceRays. Fans are encouraged to donate unwrapped toys, with all toys collected going to the Pediatrics playroom at United Regional Health Care System.
