Wild Things Host United States Military All-Stars

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, started the preseason on a strong foot, defeating the United States Military All-Stars by a score of 19-2 in a special exhibition, one of four scheduled this weekend.

Washington bombarded the All-Stars with 18 hits on route to the victory, including Robbie Knapp's two-run homer in the third inning that gave the Wild Things an 8-0 lead early in the game. Knapp's homerun came directly after outfielder Mike Butia sent two men across home plate with a line drive single.

Jeff Beachum went two for two with a pair of RBI when he entered the game in seventh inning.

The Military All-Stars' Elton Shaw got on base four times, going three for three and chalking up a walk. Rafael Figueroa hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to give the All-Stars their first run of the game.

The Wild Things continue their exhibition weekend at CONSOL Energy Park with a double header Friday at 10:30 a.m. (Winner's Day) and 7:05 p.m., and a third game Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Chillicothe Paints.

Washington hosts Traverse City for their home opener May 24 when first pitch is at 7:05 p.m., Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
