Wichita Wild News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wild came away with their second home win of the season over the Lincoln Haymakers in a final score 49-32 to bring their record to 4-1. This win extends their home win streak to 14-0 which began in 2012.

In the first quarter the Wild were able to score on the very first offensive play of the game when QB Rocky Hinds found WR Rashad Daniels on a 32-yard pass to put the Wild up 7-0 early in the game. It only took three plays for the Haymakers to come down the field, but after the Wild defense stiffened on the goal line, they forced Lincoln to turn the ball over with a fumble forced by Matt Moss. The Wild was able to score their second consecutive touchdown of the game with two big rushes by Hinds to give them a 14-0 lead over the Haymakers. Lincoln was able to respond with a score of their own on a deep pass to former Wild RB Travis Ribbing, but missed the PAT, leaving them trailing 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Wichita answered back with a field goal of their own to bring the score 17-6 in the second quarter. After trading fumbles, the Haymakers were able to put themselves in scoring position, but stalled when James McCartney blocked their attempt, resulting in a Wild safety to extend their lead to 19-6. Coming up empty on their offensive drive, the Wild were able to hit the Haymakers with another big defensive play, strip, sack, and touchdown by new DL Latavious Davis to give the Wild a 26-6 lead with two minutes left in the half. The Haymakers finally converted offensively on a 31 yard pass from Lincoln QB Wright to RB Ribbing putting the score at 26-12 with a little over a minute left till halftime. Wichita, led by Hinds, drove down the field calling time out with 11 seconds left in the half with the ball on the four yard line. Hinds found Jarrell Kelly on a quick route to extend the lead to 33-12 at halftime.

In comparison to the second quarter, third was quiet for both teams, as with Lincoln scoring a touchdown and Wichita completing a field goal to leave the Wild holding a 36-18 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Just 50 seconds into the fourth quarter, Hinds hit Hubbard in the end zone for another Wild touchdown to make the Wild lead 42-18 over the Haymakers. Lincoln threatened to score several times, but could only cash in once on a 33-yard bomb and a 10 yard rush from Jacobs. The Wild sealed the game with a three yard rumbling touchdown from DL James McCartney to end the game 49-32.

Wichita continues season play next Saturday in Omaha when they play the Beef in Ralston Arena. The game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO or kgso.com, or streamed live on americaone.com for a small fee.
