Wichita Wild News Release

WICHITA, Kan. -The Wichita Wild (7-2) set out for Dodge City this Saturday to play their last road game of the regular season in search of a CPIFL playoff berth. The game against the Law (7-3) is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in the United Wireless Arena. The last time these two teams met was in Hartman Arena on March 22nd when the Wild came away with a 40-7 win over the Law. Since then, Dodge City has been on a hot streak, winning six of their last seven games.

Wichita returned to its winning ways in week 12 when they hosted the Kansas Koyotes in Hartman Arena. With the return of QB Rocky Hinds and DB Kendrick Harper, the Wild seemed to be firing on all cylinders, even with the absence of DL Matt Moss. Veteran RB Tywon Hubbard opened the game with a one yard touchdown run, breaking his scoring drought which spanned two games (Salina, Oklahoma). Hinds threw for 195 yards, completing 13 of 19 passes with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Hubbard and WR Joe Kassanavoid led all scorers with two touchdowns each to propel the Wild toward their 16th win at home since 2012. The Wild defense was tough as ever, holding the Koyotes scoreless up until the fourth quarter, and even then only allowing 14 points. DBs Dan Kontz and Harper each pulled in an interception to contribute to the defensive efforts and lead the Wild to a 52-14 win over the Koyotes.

Dodge City enjoyed a bye week after a strong showing against the Oklahoma Defenders in Week 11, which resulted a 56-33 win and locked them in for a spot in the CPIFL post-season. In that game, the Defender defense had a hard time handling Law QB Joshua Floyd, who went 14-22 for 175 yards with three passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns and two interceptions. The Wild defense has not had their chance at Floyd yet, as he joined the Law after previous QB Charles McCullum was injured in their loss to the Wild. Floyd and the Law offense will go into Saturday's game up against the number one scoring defense, which allows an average of 26 points, the number one passing and rushing defense which allows an average of 127.4 yards and 34 yards respectively, and the number one red zone defense. The Wild defense also boasts a +17 turnover margin on the season led by Harper and Moss, which could be a handful for the Law since they average 1.6 turnovers per game and coughed up four against the Wild in their last meeting.

Player(s) to Watch: Wild Defensive Line The Wild's veteran defensive line made up of Moss, Brandon Jenkins, James McCartney and Latavious Davis has been on fire this season against CPIFL opponents. Wichita's D-line has done a great job of not only stopping opposing offenses, but creating opportunities for their own. The Wild defense has racked up 11 fumbles and 22 sacks so far this season, which amounts to roughly the same amount of times that Law QBs have been sacked (21). In order to secure a place in the CPIFL post-season, the defensive line will need to put forth their best effort against a high powered Law offense that has averaged 52 points per game over their last four games.

The Wild head to Dodge City next Saturday, May 24th at 7:05 p.m. to take on the Law. Tickets for the game in Dodge City can be purchased through the Wild office for $10 apiece by calling 316.440.5044.
