Wild Hold off Edge in Final Period

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Edge fell for the second time this season to the top-scoring team in the Champions Professional Indoor Football League with a 49-35 loss to the Wichita Wild on Friday night at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

After a scoreless first quarter, Wichita opened the scoring with a Tywon Hubbard two-yard touchdown run with 13:40 remaining. The Edge used a 46-yard field goal from Peter Christofilakos with 9:37 left to cut the deficit to 6-3, but only mustered one more score in the half's final minute on a 7-yard touchdown run by quarterback David Knighton as the Wild led 23-9 at the break.

The Edge trailed 32-22 after three periods thanks to a 23-yard scoring pass to Jasonus Tillery and a 13-yard touchdown strike to Marcus Lewis, then cut the deficit to 32-29 on an Andre Raymond 3-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The Wild scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter on a 26-yard pass from Rocky Hinds to Joe Kassanavoid to put the visitors ahead 39-29, where the score remained until Hinds put the Wild ahead 46-29 with a three-yard scoring pass to Tim Simmons with 3:38 left in the game. The Edge made one final run with a Knighton-to-Tillery 28-yard connection with 2:18 left to cut the margin to 46-35, but the Wild put the game out of reach with an 18-yard field goal from Alex Fambrough with 46 seconds remaining.

The Edge outgained the Wild in total offense, 174-167. Knighton was 14-of-23 with three interceptions and three touchdowns for 139 yards. Hinds led the Wichita offense with 13-of-23 passing with three interceptions and four touchdowns for 123 yards. Andre Raymond led Edge rushers with five carries for 19 yards while Hubbard led the Wild on the ground with 52 yards on 19 carries.

The Edge fall to 2-3 as the Wild improve to 5-1. Bloomington plays its next three games on the road before returning home on May 10, traveling to the Tulsa Convention Center next week for a 7:05 p.m. Saturday kick-off against the Oklahoma Defenders.
