Wide Receiver Rodney Wright Returns to SaberCats

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned former SaberCats wide receiver Rodney Wright. He returns to San Jose, having had two previous stints with the SaberCats from 2005-08 and 2011.

"Rodney is a guy we are very familiar with here in San Jose," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He is very versatile, has great quickness and can just flat out make plays."

Wright (5-9, 180, Fresno State) returns for his third stint with the SaberCats and in total has played five seasons for San Jose, totaling 331 receptions for 3,632 yards and 45 touchdowns. Also a threat in the return game, Wright brought back 127 kicks for 2,723 yards and five touchdowns. He was originally drafted in the seventh round by the Buffalo Bills in 2002 and spent two seasons on their practice squad. He also served a stint with the San Francisco 49ers in 2008.

A versatile athlete at Fresno State, Wright appeared in 38 games (19 starts) over four seasons with the Bulldogs. He finished as the career leader in receptions with 222. As a senior, Wright earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a senior after setting school season records with 104 receptions and 1,630 yards.
