Kansas City Command News Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Command (3-10) and Chicago Rush (8-5) will square off in a Divisional game this weekend as both teams come off of huge wins last week. The Rush will travel to Kansas City for a 7 p.m. start at Sprint Center in the Power and Light District.

The Command are coming off an upset 57-41 victory over the San Jose SaberCats, sparked by quarterback Zack Eskridge getting his first AFL start. Eskridge settled in after an early interception to complete 12 of 23 passes for 183 yards, three touchdowns and rushed for two more.

The Command found themselves down 19-7 early in the second quarter before Jackie Chambers' 57-yard kickoff return for a score electrified the Sprint Center crowd. After that touchdown, the Command would outscore the SaberCats 43-22 en route to the 57-41 victory. Chambers finished the game with 199 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Kansas City held San Jose to their lowest point total of the season (41) and rushed for a season-high 54 yards.

Opposing quarterback Mark Grieb threw for five touchdowns and 322 yards in the game and is now only two touchdown passes away from becoming the third AFL quarterback to throw 900 touchdowns. Grieb was also picked off twice in the game.

The Rush are coming off of a game in which they pounded the Georgia Force, 62-27. Rush quarterback Russ Michna was 17 of 26 for 217 yards and six touchdowns.

The Rush currently sit in the middle of a playoff race. They are in second place in the National Conference Central Division, two games back of the first place Talons. They sit one game back of a wild card spot.

Starting with this week's game, the Command have the opportunity to play the role of spoiler over the next couple of weeks as they take on several teams vying for playoff berths.

Michna will lead the charge for the Rush. He will look to spread the ball to his two leading receivers Reggie Gray and Jared Perry. Both receivers have over 90 catches and 1,200 receiving yards on the season.

The Command, however, bring the fourth ranked scoring defense in the league and play a Rush team that is only 1-5 on the road this season. The Command have won three of their last five overall and two of their last three at home.

Eskridge will be looked upon to lead the Command offense again. The Command will again try to get the ball into the hot hands of Bret Smith. Ironman Jackie Chambers will be a key player for the Command in the quest for another upset victory.
