Wichita Wings vs. Syracuse Silver Knights November 18th Game Preview

November 16, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, Kan.- The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) are excited to welcome the Syracuse Silver Knights for their third home match of the season on Sunday, November 18th in Hartman Arena with a kick-off time of 3:05 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The Wings are coming off a disappointing loss to the Milwaukee Wave, dropping their third consecutive game. Wichita struggled to find their rhythm in last week's home match against the Wave. The first half was a defensive battle as the Wings only allowed the Wave four points. During the second half, the Wings failed to capitalize on major scoring opportunities and as a result, the Wave took a commanding lead. Geison was the only Wings player to find success against the Wave scoring both goals for the Wings in a 12-4 loss. The Wings are looking for success and a win in their next game against the Silver Knights.

The Silver Knights are coming off two consecutive losses. They last faced the Baltimore Blast on the road, which proved to be a competitive match up. The Silver Knights stayed on par with the Blast the entire first half with Syracuse defender Nelson Santana scoring 27 seconds into the second quarter giving the lead to the Silver Knights 2-0. The Blast eventually claimed a 6-4 lead with a goal from Lucio Gonzaga right before halftime. Over the course of the second half, the Silver Knights were unable to score, ending the game with a 10-4 win for Baltimore. The Silver Knights will travel to face the Missouri Comets Friday, November 15th before facing the Wichita Wings on Sunday.

This will be the first of a three game series between the two clubs this season. In the 2011-2012 season, the Wings and the Silver Knights split the series at one apiece. The Wings dominated the Silver Knights in their first match, claiming the win in Hartman Arena with a convincing 16 point spread. In their second match, the Silver Knights came out fighting for a win in a close contest. At the end of regulation, the Knights had the game tied at 6-6, forcing overtime. With 1:19 left in overtime, forward, Andriy Budnyi scored the winning goal ending the game 9-6 for the Silver Knights.

Key match-ups: Be on the lookout for the competition between Wings forward Geison and Silver Knights' Defender Nelson Santana. They have both scored 10 points for their respective clubs this season.

Player to Watch: Wings Forward Geison Moura Geison has been a great addition to the Wings this season. As the reigning MISL league MVP, he led the league with 90 points while playing for the Missouri Comets last season. To date, Geison leads the Wings with 17 total shots, 10 points and has scored from his only penalty kick. Geison brings energy to the soccer field, providing motivation for his teammates.
