Wichita Wings Vs. Missouri Comets - January 14th Game Preview

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) will take on the Missouri Comets on January 14th in the team's final meeting of regular season play. The game will be played at the Sprint Center in Kansas City with kick-off scheduled at 7:35pm (CT).

The Wichita Wings and Missouri Comets have met five previous times this season, with Missouri currently leading the series 4-1. Nearly every meeting between the two teams has come down to the wire. The Wings-Comets last met on January 7th when Missouri trumped the Wings in a final score of 13-10. That game teetered back and forth with 5 different lead changes throughout the game. Wichita lead 8-7 entering the fourth, but a late goal by Missouri's Midfielder Geison on a two man advantage power play with just 1:40 left in play sealed off the win for Missouri.

Missouri's win last Saturday night also gave the Comets their fourth victory over the Wings this season, giving them claim to the Turnpike Trophy- a competition between the two team's based off of regular season wins.

The Missouri Comets, record of 9-7, currently sit in second place in the Central Division, three games behind Milwaukee. The Comets currently have two of the top three MISL scoring leaders on their roster, with Midfielder Geison leading the league with 54 points, and Byron Alvarez in third with 43 points. Missouri has shown well rounded play throughout the first half of their season, including steadfast Goalkeeping in Danny Waltman

The Wichita Wings, record of 4-8, currently sit in third place in the Central Division, six games behind Milwaukee. The Wings will look for redemption against the Comets this Saturday; Wichita's four losses to Missouri have been by an average score of only 4.25 points. Jamar Beasley and Freddy Moojen currently lead the Wings in scoring with 39 points (fifth in the league) and 29 points (fourteenth in the league), respectively. Near impenetrable Goalkeeping by Wichita's Sanaldo Carvalho has helped keep the Wings within reach in many of their game. Wichita will have to rely on their young rookies to step up play in the upcoming second half of the season in order to make the noise the team desires in the MISL.

Key match-ups: Missouri's defensive pressure vs. Wichita's ability to prevent Historically this season, Missouri has seen success against the Wings when the team presses on defense. Wichita's ability to quickly diffuse the press could very well decide the outcome of the game.

Keep an eye on: Tijani Ayegbusi Tijani returned to the Wings on the January 7th game after missing nearly seven weeks due to injury. As team captain, Ayegbusi's addition back with the Wings was heavily noticeable. The Wings defender scored one goal and had three assists, playing a big role both offensively and defensively for Wichita. If he is able to stay healthy, Tijani will no doubtable play a vital role for the Wings in the second half of the season.

The Wings will take on the Missouri Comets on January 14th before returning to Hartman Arena for a four game home stand against the Milwaukee Wave and Rochester Lancers.
