Wichita Wings Vs. Milwaukee Wave - January 20th & 21st Game Preview

January 19, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Wichita Wings News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) will host the Milwaukee Wave this weekend in a crucial weekend Central Division double-header. This will be the fourth matchup of the season between the two sides. The Wings will take on the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st. Both games are scheduled to kick-off at 7:35pm (CT) playing out of Hartman Arena.

The Milwaukee Wave are coming off a 23-10 trouncing of the Rochester Lancers. Marco Terminesi scored four goals in the meeting, leading all players with 9 points. Ian Bennett added two goals and two assists in a supporting manner. Milwaukee is leading the Central Division with an 11-1 record and also has the best record in the MISL.

The Wichita Wings, currently 5-8 in third place in the Central Division, are coming off a huge win against Central Division and I-35 rivals, the Missouri Comets. Like each of the previous matchups between the two sides, the game was a back and forth battle coming down to the last minutes for either team to secure a victory. Wichita won their final regular season meeting against the Comets when Wings rookie Midfielder Kevin Ten Eyck scored with just under three minute to play, earning a Wings victory with a final score of 10-9. That game, played out of the Sprint Center in Kansas City, was full of excitement as 8,276 fans packed the house to watch the final game between the two sides.

The double-header weekend will be the Wave's first to Hartman Arena this season. The team will face a tough environment, playing in front of two potential sell-out crowds. Two of the three previous matchups between the Wings and Wave saw Milwaukee pull out victories by a combined 5 points. The Wings will look to end Milwaukee's dominance over the Central Division and the MISL, and gain some ground in the Central Division where they currently sit in third place, 6.5 games back of the lead and 2 games back of second place Comets.

Key Matchup - Sanaldo Carvalho vs. Marco Terminesi

Sanaldo is currently ranked 5th in the MISL with a 10.94 PAA, a statistic that does not give justice to his seasons play. Sanaldo has a .742 save percentage which is good for second in the league. Sanaldo has been the anchor of Wichita's defense and must look to shut down Wave newcomer Terminesi. Terminesi has only appeared for the Wave five times this season, but has racked up an astounding 18 points. Terminesi has tallied 7 goals and 2 assists over those five games.

Keep an Eye on - Jamar Beasley

Beasley has cooled as of late but still leads the Wings with 40 total points through 13 games with 15 goals and 9 assists. Beasley must look to regain his scoring power if the Wings want to hand Milwaukee consecutive losses.
