Wichita Wild News Release

WICHITA, Kan.-After starting the season on the road for two weeks, the Wichita Wild finally blew the doors off of Hartman Arena Saturday night with a big 40-7 win over the Dodge City Law. Dodge City came to Wichita boasting the second ranked offense and defense in the CPIFL, but would not be able to jumpstart their offense in lieu of an incredible performance by the Wild defense led by Kendrick Harper, Matt Moss and Jason Catchings who all had big nights.

Dodge City opened the game with a drive that ended in a turnover on downs after a strong stand by the Wild D. Riding the momentum, Wichita was able to get going on their first offensive drive, which ended in the end zone on a six-yard run by Tywon Hubbard to give the Wild a 7-0 advantage. The Law tried to find some rhythm, but after two sacks by the Wild defense (Moss, Catchings), Dodge City came up empty on a field goal attempt. After controlling possession of the ball for most of the quarter, the Wild were able to add to their lead with a field goal.

On the next play, the Law would lose the ball to the Wild after 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, Matt Moss stripped the ball in the end zone from Law quarterback, Dennis Havrilla and recovered it for a 14-0 lead. Dodge City was finally able to answer back with a score of their own off a run by D.D. Holyfield to cut the Wild lead in half, 14-7.

Back to back interceptions by Harper would cause the Law offense to go ice cold for the rest of the half and give the Wild offense the opportunity for Hinds to find wide receiver Joe Kassanavoid in the end zone to extend their lead 24-7 at halftime.

The second half of the game was just as explosive for the Wild, as the defense held the Law scoreless after several failed attempts including a missed field goal and several turnover on downs. The Wild offense was able to extend their lead with a pass from Hinds to Kelley for a touchdown, a field goal by Lacayo and a five yard rush by Hinds for a touchdown and a missed extra point. This would close down the game with a 40-7 Wild win over Dodge City and extend their home win streak at Hartman Arena to 13-0 dating back to March 2012.

The Wild continue season play April 5th when they hit the road to play the Sioux City Bandits; kick-off set for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO or kgso.com or streamed live on americaone.com for a small fee.
