Wichita Falls Added to ABA Expansion Teams
July 24, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that a new team in Wichita Falls, TX will begin play in December. "What a great fit Wichita Falls is in our South Central Division, and what a great owner we have there," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "Nick Moore is the perfect combination of business, sports with the extra bonus of motivation. We think he'll be a winner on and off the court - and Wichita Falls is a great city."
Nick Moore, team owner, grew up in Wichita Falls. In 1977, at the age of six, he began his lifelong love of sports by playing Little League football at the local Boys & Girls Club and ended up being a Camp Counselor from 1984-86. A graduate of Rider High School, where he competed in varsity basketball and football, he received a football scholarship to Arizona State where he played for two years before attending Scottsdale Community College where he played basketball. He also played Arena Football professionally.
In 1993, Nick toured Paris France with Venice Beach Through Youth Organization sponsored by Nike and Coca Cola and was part of a team that raised money for area parks in Paris and touched the lives of several thousand children. At that point, he decided to dedicate his life to help children and set a goal to reach one million kids through motivational speaking. He created the a youth foundation, Motivate the Children, and thus far has reached more than 200,000 students throughout Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, California, Oklahoma and Texas.
In the tanning salon business and automobile business, Nick travels throughout the Southwest speaking to children about staying away from drugs and violence and goal setting. "We are going to use our new team as a tool to continue to help children," stated Moore. "Our plans are to set up some dynamic new and creative programs that involve the youth of Wichita Falls. I want them all to have the same opportunities that this great city provided me and more. We are thankful to the ABA for giving us this opportunity. And we will work hard to justify their confidence in us. On and off the court, this will be a special team."
