Whitecaps FC 2 Earn 2-0 Win over UBC in First Preseason Match

VANCOUVER, BC - Whitecaps FC 2 played their first match of preseason on Friday, coming away with a 2-0 victory over UBC on a cool evening at Thunderbird Stadium.

The 'Caps worked their way into the match early as they found their rhythm, while UBC was very much up for the challenge. David Norman Jr. had the best opportunity early on when he made a great effort on six minutes to get his leg on a free kick, hitting the cross bar.

The first goal of the match came on 20 minutes off the foot of left back Deklan Wynne. The New Zealand national teamer weaved through a crowd in the box before firing a perfect shot to the far post to make it 1-0.

"I'm really pleased," said head coach Rich Fagan after the match. "It was a good exercise. UBC are a good team and have had good seasons in recent years. They have a strong team and I think we've done well with our young group as we start to build chemistry."

WFC2 play their second preseason match next Friday, March 10 against SFU, 7 p.m. at Fox Field. They follow that with a Wednesday, March 15 preseason affair against the FVSL All-Stars, kicking off at 7 p.m. at Port Moody Town Centre,

The USL begins on Saturday, March 25 on the road at LA Galaxy II. The home opener will see WFC2 face Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Saturday, April 8 at Langley's McLeod Athletic Park, with the first match at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday, April 22 against San Antonio FC.
