Whitecaps Add Pre-Season Matches

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed additional men's team pre-season matches have been added.
Teitur Thordarson's squad are in the final stages of preparations for the 2010 season, with the 'Caps set to play in the newly-formed USSF D-2 Pro League and the third edition of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
With the season opener versus NSC Minnesota Stars set for 4 p.m. PT kickoff on Sunday, April 11, at Swangard Stadium, the Whitecaps have arranged an inter-squad game and three friendly matches as part of their build-up to the new season. This Saturday, the men's team will face the club's Residency program in an inter-squad match at the Whitecaps Training Centre (Field #4) on the campus of Simon Fraser University. The following Saturday, March 20, the 'Caps will travel to Vancouver Island for a friendly match versus University of Victoria Vikes (UVic) at Centennial Stadium. On Friday, March 26, Vancouver will play Pacific Northwest rivals and fellow USSF D-2 Pro League club Portland Timbers in Washington State before meeting University of British Columbia Thunderbirds on Wednesday, March 31. The Whitecaps have been through an extensive off-season training program that began last November. In the past month, Thordarson's squad enjoyed a productive two-week training camp in Arizona, while they also tested themselves in four friendly games versus clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS). This included a 3-2 loss and a scoreless draw versus "Interstate 5 rivals" Seattle Sounders FC, a 4-1 defeat against Chicago Fire and a 2-1 win over 2009 MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake.
Whitecaps 2010 season tickets are now on sale.
