Wheeling Wildcats Sign NFL Veteran WR Eugene Baker

Wheeling, WV- The Wheeling Wildcats have announced the signing of former NFL WR Eugene Baker to a contract for the 2009 season. Baker (6'1, 180) a 5th Round NFL Draft Pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 1999 out of Kent State University brings 7 years of NFL experience to the Wildcats. Baker has spent time on the active roster and practice squads of the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baker has the additional experience of playing in NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder, and spent time with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. On June 3rd, 2008 Baker joined the Erie RiverRats of the American Indoor Football Association. Baker quickly adapted to the indoor game finishing with 24 catches for 339 yards and 5 touchdowns in only 3 games for the Rats.

Baker, a native of Monroeville, PA, played at Kent State University where he was inducted into the schools' Varsity K Hall of Fame in 2007. Baker, an All-American in 1997, is Kent State's all-time leading receiver, rewriting the Golden Flashes' record book. He was a four-year letter winner and team captain in 1998. Baker posted KSU records for career receptions with 229, receiving yards with 3,513 yards and touchdown receptions with 35. Baker's totals also rank second all-time in the MAC in touchdown receptions and third in receiving yards and receptions. As a junior in 1997, Baker posted school records with 103 receptions for 1,549 yards and 18 touchdowns. Following that season, he was named to the Football News All-America Third Team. On three separate occasions, Baker recorded a school-record 15 receptions. Baker also was a three-time All-MAC performer and was selected to play in the Hula Bowl in 1999.

The Wheeling Wildcats are a professional indoor football team located in Wheeling, WV, and will begin play in March of 2009 in the Continental Indoor Football League.
