WHA2 Introduces Ready 2 Read Program

January 14, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

CELEBRATION, Fla. – The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) today announced the launch of the "Ready 2 Read" program in conjunction with Sleeping Bear Press.

Each of the WHA2 teams' players will visit schools to read with the students. The players and children will be reading from the book "Z is for Zamboni: A Hockey Alphabet" published by Sleeping Bear Press.

"It is very important for all of the people involved with the WHA2 that we give back to the community." WHA2 Chairman of the Board of Governors David Waronker said. "Our "Ready 2 Read" program is another way to do that."

"The great thing about our "Ready 2 Read" program is that the school children participate." WHA2 Director of Community Relations Jenn Green said. "The players will begin by reading the first letter in the hockey alphabet, but it will be the students that will pass the book along and read in front of their classmates. We hope this will be a fun experience for everyone involved and help build the students' confidence reading in front of people."

"The WHA2 has designed a wonderful program involving sports figures, children, and great books." Amy Lennex, Associate Editor for Sleeping Bear Press, said. "Sleeping Bear Press is honored to be a part of a program putting "Z is for Zamboni: A Hockey Alphabet" in the hands of players to then share with children."

The WHA2 has six member teams for the 2003 – 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals. Every game will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
