WFC2 Defender Deklan Wynne Called up to New Zealand

VANCOUVER, BC - New Zealand football announced on Thursday that Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) left back Deklan Wynne has been called up to his country's senior men's national team for their upcoming USA Tour from October 3 to 11.In preparation for their upcoming qualifying matches in November for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the All Whites will face a pair of CONCACAF powers in international friendlies. On Saturday, October 8 they take on Mexico in Nashville, Tennessee, and on Tuesday, October 11 they will play the United States in Washington, DC.

Wynne, 21, has previously made three senior international appearances for the All Whites, having recorded an assist in his debut during a 1-1 draw versus China on November 14, 2014. At the U-20 level, Wynne started all four matches for New Zealand as they hosted the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, bowing out in the Round of 16 against Portugal.

The 5-10 defender joined WFC2 in August of 2015, starting three of his four appearances to end the season. After battling through injuries at the start of the 2016 season, Wynne has made 10 appearances, including five starts.

WFC2 play their first ever match in the USL Cup Playoffs this coming Friday, September 30 on the road against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. PT, streamed live at
