BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Bloomington Edge proudly announce that Offensive Lineman Larry "Max" Westphal has been drafted into the China Arena Football League. Westphal was taken in the 10th round by the Shenzhen Naja in the inaugural CAFL draft on June 10th, 2016.

"I feel blessed and thankful for the opportunity, and I look forward to showcasing arena football over in China. My experience with the Edge will serve me well as we introduce football into a new market overseas," said Westphal.

The China Arena Football League, led by a group including former NFL QB Ron Jaworksi and Super Bowel coach Dick Vermeil, is scheduled to start play in late 2016. The League will play in the fall-winter season to allow coaches and trainers to visit China in an effort to teach the game and develop players.

"Max is a supreme professional, and we are thrilled at this development for him. He has been an outstanding veteran presence on our team, and while we are sad to see him go, we're proud that he will be representing the Edge in the new league. His selection, one of four players from the entire CIF, is a testament to the quality of our program here in Bloomington," said Team President Nargis Khokhar.
