Western New York Flash Goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom Voted NWSL Player of the Week

June 14, 2016 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release

CHICAGO - Western New York Flash goalkeeper Britt Eckerstrom was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association for Week 8 of the 2016 NWSL season.

Eckerstrom, 23, has yet to concede a goal in her professional career and helped the Flash earn a 1-0 win Saturday against the Orlando Pride at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y. It was the team's third consecutive win at home this season.

The Germantown, M.D. native made several great saves including a double save that came in the 36th minute. She first dove to deny Orlando Pride's Maddy Evans and seconds later a rebound sent back post by Pride's Jasmyne Spencer.

The Penn State alum played all 90 minutes of the game and finished with nine saves on 14 shots (nine on goal).

It is the first time Eckerstrom has been honored as the NWSL Player of the Week, and the 10th time a member of the Flash has won the award.

The Western New York Flash will return to action at home Friday, June 17 at 7 p.m. ET against Portland Thorns FC at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, N.Y.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of press that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.
