Jackson Generals News Release
(Sevierville, TN) The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx rallied from a 2-0 deficit with seven un-answered runs in the final two innings as the Diamond Jaxx defeated the Tennessee Smokies 7-2. The win extends the Diamond Jaxx win streak to a season high five games and moves the Jaxx to within a game of Carolina in the Northern Division.
With Tennessee up 2-0, Mike Wilson led off the eighth inning with a single off Chris Shaver. Luis Valbuena walked to put runners at first and second with nobody out. After Mike Saunders popped out trying to move the runners up, Jesse Estrada came on to relieve Shaver. Estrada (2-3) struckout Mark Kiger for the second out, but Shawn Garrett doubled to right-center, driving in Wilson to cut the lead to 2-1. With runners at second and third and two outs, Tennessee intentionally walked Marshall Hubbard to load the bases. That set up the right-handed pitching Estrada against the right-handed hitting Prentice Redman. Redman foiled the strategy by hitting a grand slam over the left field wall, giving the Diamond Jaxx a 5-2 lead. Mike Wilson hit a two run homer in the ninth inning to cap the scoring.
Marwin Vega picked up the win in relief of starter Justin Thomas. Vega (1-2) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits with two walks. Wilson had three hits and two RBI's to lead the Diamond Jaxx offense. Redman and Garrett finished the night with two hits each.
Game four of the five game series takes place on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 CDT. Right-hander Chris Jakubauskas (2-0 1.23) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Tennessee will counter with right-hander Mitch Atkins (1-1 4.57).
