West Division Reclaims Top Three Spots in vPower Rankings

June 10, 2013 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release

CHICAGO - For the sixth consecutive week, the Arizona Rattlers (11-1) remain atop the Arena Football vPower Rankings, as tabulated on AFLFieldPass.com.

Arizona put together a dominating performance, in which three different Rattlers receivers hauled in at least three touchdowns, as the team secured a 70-21 victory over the San Antonio Talons (5-6) in Week 12. The squad will need all that production and more as they prepare for a rematch with the No. 2-ranked Spokane Shock (9-3), who stunned the American Conference-leading Jacksonville Sharks (8-4), 76-41, last week. Spokane is the only team to defeat Arizona this season, having come away with a 66-49 victory at home over the Rattlers on April 12. Kickoff for the rematch at the US Airways Center in Phoenix is set for 9:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, June 15.

Rookie signal-caller Mitch Mustain guided the No. 3 ranked San Jose SaberCats (8-3) to a bounce-back victory over the Pittsburgh Power (3-8) last week. With starter Russ Michna inactive due to injury, Mustain completed 21-of-37 passes for 250 yards and six scores in San Jose's 68-54 win. The team heads to Des Moines for a matchup with the Iowa Barnstormers (5-7) this week. Kickoff is set for 8:05 p.m. ET on Saturday.

The Chicago Rush (7-5) moved up two spots in the vPower rankings following a 67-43 victory over the Utah Blaze (4-7) in Rockford, Ill. last weekend. Rush receiver Jared Jenkins set a new career-high with five receiving touchdowns in the contest. In Week 13, the Rush host the Talons in a key divisional matchup at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Saturday's kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.

Jumping back up three spots to No. 5 in the vPower Rankings are the Philadelphia Soul (6-5), who hung on to defeat the New Orleans VooDoo (2-9) in Week 12. Fullback Derrick Ross rushed for four touchdowns in the contest after being held scoreless for the first time in 33 games two weeks ago. Ross is primed to make history in Week 13, as the third-year back is just seven yards shy of becoming the League's all-time leading rusher. He could also become just the third player in League history to record 100 career rushing touchdowns. Ross has 96 to his name coming into this weekend's matchup with the Power. Kickoff is set for Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET.
