Wichita Falls Warriors News Release
Teams: Shreveport Mudbugs (19-15-1-4, 43 pts) vs. Wichita Falls Warriors (21-14-5-2, 49 pts)
Where: Kay Yeager Coliseum
Times: 7:05 CST for Friday and Saturday. 6:05 CST for Sunday.
Broadcast: HockeyTv.com
It will be the third series between these two teams this season, and they both have two wins apiece.
Shreveport took the weekend sweep on December 16th and 17th with a 4-1 and 4-2 score, while Wichita Falls would counter on January 7th and 8th, with 5-2 and 2-0 scores. This will be the first meeting inside the Kay Yeager Coliseum this season.
Shreveport sits 6th in the South Division while Wichita Falls are 4th, six points ahead of them in the final playoff position.
Defense Play:
The defense has been a topic of point for the Warriors. Assistant Coach Brennan Couet commented that the aggressive backchecking and active feet in their defensive zone are vital parts of how the Warriors want to dictate play.
They've been successful with that kind of play, with a goal differential of +18 in the last four games, with Milberg and Duris collecting those wins in-between the pipes; Duris collecting a shutout in his previous outing against El Paso.
Beating Bobak:
The Warriors need to solve Shreveport's netminder Devon Bobak, who currently sits 3rd among the NAHL goaltender leaders due to his 2.08 goals-against average with five shutouts on the 2021-2022 campaign.
With 1,647 minutes played in his 28 games, he has been their leading man between the pipes, and look for him to backstop them this weekend.
Putting the Power in Powerplay:
The Warriors have been dominant when going up a man as of late. Last weekend they went 5 of 8 against the Rhinos while going 6 for 10 the weekend before in Amarillo. Wichita Falls is sitting 3rd in the NAHL in powerplay percentage at 27.8%
On the opposite side, the Mudbugs are top five in the league when shorthanded, killing off penalties at a pace of 85.4%.
Last Ten Games:
Both teams have earned the same amount of points in their last ten games, with fifteen. The only difference between the two teams is that the Warriors suffered an overtime loss while the Mudbugs lost through the shootout.
With 6 points up for grabs, the Mudbugs will be looking to take a massive leap forward in their attempt at making the Robinson Cup Playoffs.
