Weekend in Review: Warriors Defend the Falls at Home

It was a successful weekend for your Wichita Falls Warriors as they swept the El Paso Rhinos. It is the second time in two weeks that the Warriors collected all 4 points on offer.

Friday's Game:

Warriors Goaltender Brandon Milberg would start in his fourth game in a row. He would be a vital piece of the Wichita Falls dominating victory over the El Paso Rhinos.

Six different goal scorers would find the back of the net, first starting with Drew Vieten notching his 11th goal of the season on the ER-Now Powerplay at the 6:30 mark of the first period. Fifteen seconds later, Max Dronen grabbed his 3rd of the 2021-2022 campaign and would be the last goal of the opening frame.

Adam Smith would make up for his hooking minor earlier in the second period by scoring at 7:41 of the period by an assist from William Lawson-Body. Dominick Rivelli made his way back onto the ice and into the scoresheet giving the Warriors a 4-0 lead.

Blake Arneson would score the game's only goal, and the weekend, for the Rhinos late in the second period to reduce the lead to 3 by the second buzzer.

Cade Lemmer would extend his home goal-scoring streak to five games, putting one past Rhinos' netminder, Jacob Zacharewicz, within the first five minutes of the final frame. Riley Brueck continued the Warriors dominance on the power play with his goal at 12:37 into the third.

That would finish Friday night's game with a 6-1 Warriors victory. The Sacred Heart University commit, Brandon Milberg, would stop 24 of 25 to collect his 13th win. At the same time, the Warriors went 75% on the power play.

Saturday's Game:

It was a different game, but the result became the same, with the Warriors winning with solid defensive play and the shutout provided by Daniel Duris.

A goal per period was how the Warriors got the job done, Riley Brueck tucking his 18th goal. His goal came on the Er-Now Power Play before a full five minutes were played in the game.

Philip Tornqvist continues to show off his scoring touch from the backend with his 12th goal of the season, again coming on the powerplay. The Warriors went five for eight on the weekend when up a man.

Adisen Brueck grabbed the empty netter in the quiet third period to ice the game with a 3-0 score.

Zacharewicz would collect his second loss of the weekend in the Rhinos net. At the same time, Duris stopped all 31 shots for his 5th victory of the 2021-2022 season.

Next Games:

The Warriors are at home once again this weekend. This time it'll be the Shreveport Mudbugs, who are 6th in the South Division, coming into the Kay Yeager Coliseum for a three-game series. The scheduled puck drop is 7:05 pm for both Friday and Saturday, with a 6:00 pm start for Sunday.
