Week three wrap-up
March 27, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
Florida @ Lakeland: With an impressive win over the expansion Frenzy this past weekend, the T-bolts open the season 2-0, and will spend the week preparing for another Atlantic Conference foe, the Greensboro Revolution. The Frenzy came out firing on all cylinders, only to run out of gas, going scoreless the remaining three quarters. Lakeland's Jason Johnson led the way through the air, 13 of 17, for 149 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground the Frenzy's RB Travis Wilson rushed for two touchdowns, on 7.6 yards per carry average. Final score: Lakeland 61 - Frenzy 20.
Billings @ Tri-Cities: The defending champs are headed in the right direction! Opening the season at home, the Fever slimly defeated Billings 44-41. A close match from opening kickoff, the Fever amassed 271 yards of offense (212 passing, 59 rushing) while Billings continued there strong defensive showing compiling 48 team tackles, 9 TFL, and 5 sacks.
Big Sky @ Wyoming: The expansion Thunder are hoping home will be better, as they suffered there second road loss, this time to the Wyoming Cavalry. One and one on the season, Wyoming's Frank Borba, QB, threw for six touchdowns, totaling 188 yards. Big Sky will have to test their road skills two more times, before playing their first game at home, April 15. Final score: Wyoming 86 - Big Sky 30.
Lincoln @ Rapid City: If poor road conditions weren't bad enough, Lincoln had to return to Rapid City for another test against the Aces. After their third win of the season, the Aces average 84.3 points per game, and are +15 in the turn over margin. They're good! Not only offensively, but defensively as well; ranking third in the league for total defense. Final score: Rapid City 90 - Lincoln 8.
Katy @ Twin City: Despite an injury to star running back Bam Morris, the Copperheads came away with a victory against the Twin City Gators, 45-30. Equally matched in total offense (Katy 175, Twin City 174 yards) the Copperheads' Ryan Breedlove led the way, accounting for 4 touchdowns. Katy is 2-1 on the season, as the Gators fall to 0-2.
Palm Beach @ Greensboro: Week two tackle leader Tyrone Higgins could not lead his team to victory in week three as the Phantoms were unable to score in the second half. Greensboro came out striking at will in the 3 rd quarter, scoring 20 points to pull away with the victory. Final score: Greensboro 34 - Palm Beach 26.
Fayetteville @ Montgomery: In a match up that saw the first action of the year for both teams, the Fayetteville Guard put a whooping on Montgomery, winning 44-7. The Guard were came away with the win on an offense that favored the ground, rather than air; something not seen in many indoor games.
Cincinnati @ RiverCity: The final game of week three was a re-match of last years first round game between the Rage and Marshals. Outside of that, nothing was the same. The Rage could have won the game based on their fourth performance alone - scoring 35 points. Speedster Hurtis Chinn had his second +100 yard receiving game in as many games, as the Rage moved to 2-0 on the year. Final score: Rage 76 - Marshals 34.
