
Week 7 SIFL Player of the Week Honors Handed Out

LAKE CHARLES, LA (May 5, 2010) - The Southern Indoor Football League handed out their weekly Player of the Week awards with Tirone Morris and Trey Crum of the Columbus Lions as well as Clarence Pendleton of the Lafayette Wildcatters earning accolades for their play in Week 7.
With the emergence of Chris McCoy at quarterback for the Columbus Lions, wide receiver Tirone Morris has been the beneficiary of a passing attack that has began to take off in Columbus. On his way to earning the SIFL's Offensive Player of the Week, Morris tied a league record for the most receptions in a game (11), already the third receiver to do so in 2010. Against Greenville, Tirone also had 151 receiving yards adding four touchdowns to his team leading eight. With his 188 all-purpose yards, he guided the Lions to a 60-39 defeat over the Force.
Also getting notice but falling short was Lafayette Wildcatters receiver Clyde Edwards and Louisiana Swashbucklers receiver Sammy Knight. Both Knight and Edwards were apart of the "Instant Classic" that took place between the "I-10" rivals with Edwards collecting seven receptions for 110 yard and four touchdowns while Knight brought down eight catches with 140 yards and three touchdowns.
Earning this week's Defensive Player of the Week nod goes to Lafayette Wildcatters defensive back Clarence Pendleton. Pendleton wrapped up five tackles as well as three interceptions including returning one for a touchdowns in the Catters come from behind win over the Swashbucklers. His last interception with less than five minutes remaining sparked Lafayette's comeback giving Lafayette their first win of the season.
Receiving consideration on the defensive side was Columbus Lions defensive back Damian Daniels along with teammate defensive lineman Tremaine Jehovah. Daniels and Jehovah were apart of the shutdown defense that limited the Greenville Force to just 56 total yards of offense in the second half. Daniels grabbed his fourth interception of the season while Jehovah brought down three sacks.
Bringing home his third Special Teams Player of the Week award goes to Columbus Lions kicker Trey Crum. This past weekend, Crum nailed two more uno's bringing his league-leading total up to 11. In the victory over the Force, Trey added 16 points going 5-7 on PAT attempts and 3-4 on field goals and currently resides as the top points (69) leader for all kickers.
Be sure to check out Week 8 action featuring the Lafayette Wildcatters (1-3) traveling back to Georgia to take on the first place Albany Panthers (3-0). Taking place this Saturday night, the Wildcatters will look to ride the momentum off their overtime win while the Panthers remain as the lone undefeated team in the SIFL.
