Published on March 12, 2014 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 3.
Offensive Players of the Week: LaRon Council (RB, Cedar Rapids Titans)
Two-time First Team All-IFL RB LaRon Council carried the load for the Titans on Saturday night. Leading the team to a 35-13 victory over the Green Bay Blizzard, Council covered 140 yards on 19 rushes. He also found the end zone on a 4-yard plunge early in the 3rd quarter. The win puts the Titans, last year's United Conference runner-ups, back at .500 in the standings. The Titans and Blizzard faceoff again this weekend, however, this time the game will take place in Green Bay.
Honorable Mention: Kyle Kaiser (WR, Colorado Ice) Jameel Sewell (QB, Nebraska Danger) Clinton Solomon (WR, Texas Revolution) Lucien Walker (RB, Green Bay Blizzard)
Defensive Player of the Week: Tyler Knight (LB, Sioux Falls Storm)
For the second consecutive week Tyler Knight, reigning IFL Defensive Player of the Year, earns Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Storm squared off against the Tri-Cities Fever on Saturday night in a matchup that lived up to its billing. The battle between these two powerhouses came down to the wire with Knight turning in the play of the year thus far in 2014. The score was tied at 40 and 18 seconds remaining on the clock and the Fever were driving deep into the Storm's territory looking to set up a game winning field goal. With the Storm needing a big play, Knight jumped in front of a Dante Warren pass attempt, secured the interception, and returned the ball 36-yards for the game winning touchdown. Knight finished the game with 15 tackles (1.5 for loss), .5 sacks, and the INT. The Storm will look to remain unbeaten when they return home to take on the Colorado Ice this weekend after a two game road trip.
Honorable Mention: Harcourt Farquharson (DB, Colorado Ice) Xzavie Jackson (DL, Cedar Rapids Titans) Lionell Singleton (DB, Tri-Cities Fever) Joe Thornton (LB, Colorado Ice)
Special Teams Player of the Week: Philip Welch (K, Colorado Ice)
In a 73-22 victory over the Wyoming Cavalry, Colorado Ice kicker Philip Welch turned in an efficient performance. During the game, Welch converted 3 of 4 field goal attempts and 7 of 9 PATs for a total of 16 points. Of the 3 field goal conversions, Welch showed off his range, drilling a 50-yard attempt late in the third quarter. Last year's field goal percentage leader, 75%, seems to be on the right track to defending his title in 2014. The Ice will face a tough challenge in Week 4 when they travel to take on the Storm.
Honorable Mention: Rockne Belmonte (K, Cedar Rapids Titans) Robert Brown (KR, Cedar Rapids Titans) Justin Cooper (KR, Wyoming Cavalry) Frankie Solomon Jr. (KR, Texas Revolution)
