
Week 18 Players of the Week Named

The Indoor Football League announced the Week 18 Players of the Week on Tuesday, August 24, after the final week of the 2021 regular season. Duke City Gladiators quarterback Nate Davis took Offensive Player of the Week, Arizona Rattlers defensive back Dillion Winfrey claimed Defensive Player of the Week, and Massachusetts Pirates wide receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
NATE DAVIS - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Duke City quarterback Nate Davis capped off the regular season against the Bismarck Bucks by setting the IFL single-season passing touchdowns record (79) to get the Gladiators a victory and a spot in the playoffs. Davis completed 20-of-28 for 246 yards and six passing touchdowns, and also rushed three times for 19 yards and one touchdown. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bucks started to close the gap after a quick touchdown to make the score 50-45, but Davis and the Gladiators squashed any comeback attempt with just two plays the following possession that ended with a 14-yard strike to Taylor Raymond for a touchdown. Duke City would go on to close out the victory over the Bucks, 57-45.
DILLION WINFREY - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arizona defensive back and league leader in interceptions (11) Dillion Winfrey earned his second Defensive Player of the Week honor for his performance against the Frisco Fighters in Week 18. Winfrey finished the night with four total tackles, one tackle for loss, and two interceptions. Winfrey's first interception came with under a minute left in the first half to end a Frisco scoring threat and set up the Rattlers for a field goal before halftime to increase their lead 31-17. His second pick came on the Fighters' final drive of the game with 30 seconds remaining to seal a 55-38 victory.
LAQUVIONTE GONZALEZ - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Massachusetts wide receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez contributed to the Pirates' 55-19 victory over the Iowa Barnstormers on the special teams unit. Gonzalez returned four kickoffs, chalking up 111 yards and taking one all the way for a touchdown. His 50-yard kickoff return for a touchdown came in the second quarter with 7:07 remaining and extend the Pirates lead to 19-13. Gonzalez finished tied for the most kicks returned for a touchdown this season with three and third in kick return yards with 957.
The Gladiators, Rattlers and Pirates all made it to the postseason and the will lead their reqpective teams into the first round of the 2021 IFL Playoffs. Postseason games being Saturday, August 28.
