FRIDAY'S GAME

Birmingham 56, Columbus 40 (Attendance: 5,035): In his first game back since a short stint in the CFL, ARYVIA HOLMES (Game MVP) caught 12 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns as the Steeldogs (5-4) shutdown the Wardogs (2-7). QB SHERARD POTEETE passed for 247 yards with five touchdowns and he rushed for another score in his Wardogs debut. Poteete threw three of his touchdowns to JAMES DICKERSON, who totaled 99 yards on nine receptions. The Steeldogs have won two straight and three of its last five.

SATURDAY'S GAMES

Mohegan 40, ROCHESTER 31 (Attendance: 1,789): Game MVP MEL LONG caught five passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wolves (6-3) past the Brigade (1-9). The Wolves scored three times via special teams, as CY BUTLER returned a kickoff 57 yards for a score and ANTHONY COMER ran back a kickoff 56 yards and a missed field goal 55 yards for touchdowns.

CAPE FEAR 55, Richmond 26 (Attendance: 4,921): For the second straight week WILMONT PERRY tallied four rushing touchdowns as the Wildcats (7-2) defeated the Speed (4-5). Game MVP MATT BURSTEIN caught five passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns and RUSS LINDGREN added a rushing tally to account for the rest of Cape Fear's scoring. The Wildcats' defense held the Speed to its lowest point total since April 20, 2001 when it scored 14 in a loss to Tennessee Valley.

Albany 48, GREENSBORO 47 (Attendance: 2,296): RYAN VENA'S 12-yard touchdowns pass to JIM JONES with 14 seconds left in the game lifted the Conquest (8-1) over the Prowlers (4-6). Vena, who was named Game MVP, completed 35-of-44 passes (80%) for an af2 season high 390 yards and six touchdowns. Vena's 390 passing yards is the fourth highest single-game total in af2 history. COREY HILL had 15 receptions for 134 yards with one touchdowns and teammate PHIL TAYLOR racked up seven catches for 108 yards and two scores. The Conquest improved to 5-1 on the road and has won six straight. BOBBY SIPPIO had three touchdown receptions for the Prowlers.

Bakersfield 56, LOUISVILLE 34 (Attendance: 7,611): Bakersfield's defense held Louisville to six points in the second half, while its offense rallied for 28 as the Blitz (4-6) busted 28-28 halftime tie to beat the Fire (3-7). CHAD ELLIOTT completed 15-of-29 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns for the victorious Blitz. The Fire lost four fumbles and had one interception. Bakersfield has won three straight games.

MACON 49. Bossier City 44 (Attendance: 3,496): QB JERMAINE ALFRED, Game MVP, passed for five touchdowns and rushed for two more as the Knights (6-3) topped the Battle Wings (3-7) and busted a two-game skid. Alfred completed 26-of-39 passes for 296 yards for the Knights. Receivers JACQUES RUMPH and ANTHONY SNEAD combined for 19 catches and 247 yards. Rumph had 10 receptions for 131 yards and four touchdowns, while Snead made nine catches for 116 yards and one score. The Knights improved to 5-0 at home this season.

CHARLESTON 68, Norfolk 44 (Attendance: 3,981): Game MVP JOHN TURMAN completed 18-of-27 passes for a career best 283 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Swamp Foxes (4-5) past the Nighthawks (5-4). Turman is the sixth af2 QB to pass for eight touchdowns this season. JOE JUDGE, Ironman of the game, and LEROY MCFADDEN each caught three of Turman's touchdowns. Judge posted a game- and career-high 131 receiving yards on eight receptions.

FLORIDA 52, Memphis 30 (Attendance: 4,719) The Firecats (4-5) scored touchdowns on two fourth quarter turnovers, rallying past the Xplorers (3-6) for its second win over the last five games. CAINON LAMB caught nine passes for 108 yards to lead all receivers and earn Ironman of the game honors. ANTHONY DIXON caught two touchdown passes and he returned a fourth-quarter fumble 21 yards for a touchdown.

ARKANSAS 58, Hawaii 39 (Attendance:) The Twisters (5-4), who jumped out to a 21-0 lead, built a 35-7 halftime advantage and never looked back, snapping the Islanders (7-3) four-game win streak. Game MVP PRINCE WILLIAMS led all receivers with five receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns. LENNIE JOHNSON led the Twisters with five solo tackles and he tallied one rushing and one receiving touchdown, earning Ironman of the Game honors. Hawaii's EDDIE KLANESKI registered a game-high 9.5 tackles and he had an interception.

GREEN BAY 53, San Diego 43 (Attendance: 2,606) RAMON ROBINSON threw two of his six touchdown passes in the final quarter and K GREG KRAUSS added a 47-yard field goal as the Blizzard (1-8) rallied past the Riptide (4-6) 17-7 in the fourth quarter to earn its first win in team history. Green Bay's ROBERT GARTH, who had seven catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns, swept the postgame awards. Riptide QB KANE CLAUNCH threw for 326 yards and six touchdowns, three to LAMONT WEBB who had 131 total receiving yards.

QUAD CITY 49, Cincinnati 42 (Attendance: 5,152): TONY BURRIER'S interception with 2:50 to go gave the Steamwheelers (8-2) a 42-35 lead and capped a comeback over the Swarm (3-7). Steamwheelers WR/DB JEFF HEWITT had six catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns to earn Game MVP honors. QB TONY ZIMMERMAN, who got off to a slow start, came through in the clutch and finished the game 12-of-28 for 226 yards, five for touchdowns and is still on pace to break the af2 record for passing touchdowns in a season. He also rushed for his 12th touchdown of the season.

TENNESSEE VALLEY 66, Wichita 31 (Attendance: 4,805): MICHAEL and JERRIAN JAMES combined for four receiving touchdowns helping the Vipers (9-0) remained undefeated with a win over the Stealth (6-4). Michael James earned MVP of the game, leading all receivers with 92 yards on three receptions, while Jerrian James was named the game's Ironman. He also tallied a rushing touchdown and made an interception. DS KENNY BAILEY, ADT Defensive Player of the Game, registered 12 tackles and returned an interception 33 yards for a score.

TULSA 63, Peoria 57 (Attendance: 6,200): WR/DB JACK WALKER caught two of his four touchdowns in the game's final 36 seconds, but it wasn't enough for the Pirates (3-6) to overtake the Talons (9-1). Walker led all receivers with 103 yards on eight receptions. Tulsa QB CRAIG STRICKLAND completed 14-of23 passes for 228 yards and seven touchdowns to five different receivers. The Talons have won 24 straight regular season home games.
