Week 11 af2 Friday night matchup
June 9, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
ARKANSAS TWISTERS (1-8) AT BAKERSFIELD BLITZ (3-6)
FRIDAY, JUNE 10, 2005 - RABOBANK ARENA (9,000) 10:00 P.M. ET
The Arkansas Twisters head west to face the Bakersfield Blitz in the only contest scheduled for Friday night. Arkansas is coming off of a two-point loss, 33-35, to division leading Memphis. The Twisters got behind 21-0 in the game but then new head coach JOHN GREGORY brought in newly acquired quarterback KEVIN FETERIK. He came in and completed 12-of-17 passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns to get Arkansas back in the game. Feterik should be very familiar with the Blitz as he came to Arkansas from the San Diego Riptide, a West Division rival of the Blitz. Despite the loss last week to San Diego, Bakersfield's JASON THOMAS had a solid game, throwing for 299 yards and six touchdown passes. Bakersfield features one of the league's best defenses, giving up only 32.9 points per game, fourth best in the league. ALEX WALLACE is tied for the league lead in interceptions with eight and is second in passes broken up with 22. KHAREE SHORTER's 6.0 tackles for a loss are best in the league. The Blitz also have the best red zone defense in the league. Opponents have scored only 25 times in 39 trips into the red zone. The Blitz defense is also best in fourth down defense, with opponents converting only 29.6% of the time. This is even more impressive considering opposing teams have gone for it on fourth down more times against the Blitz (27 times) than any other team. The Twisters defense is an opportunistic one. They are sixth in the league in recovered fumbles with nine, but have taken four of those in for touchdowns, tied for first in the league. This is the final meeting between the two clubs this season.
