The World Basketball Association Exposure League (WBA), which is preparing to start its seventh season, re-launched its Web site Wednesday and announced the hiring of Joseph Myers as the league's Director of Public Relations.
The WBA's Web site, which can be found at www.wbaball.net, has several features on the front page. It includes news headlines, a space listing the league's top players and alumni, a fan poll, recent transactions, links to the Web sites of each of the league's seven teams as well as information on how to follow the WBA on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and through an RSS feed. The newly designed site also has the WBA's schedule for the upcoming season and will feature links to statistics and rosters as the year progresses.
"The new WBA Exposure League website and (Public Relations Director) announcement is a great step in our goal to become recognized as a leader in scouting and developing worldwide talent," said WBA Director of Player Development/Basketball Operations Lionel Garrett.
Myers has been a sports writer for the past 14-plus years and served as the Public Relations Director for the WBA's Cartersville Warriors in 2009. Along with that experience, Myers also covered another former WBA franchise, the Rome Gladiators, during his time at The Rome News-Tribune from 2003-2006.
He will be responsible for authoring all of the league's press releases and maintaining contact with media outlets in the league's seven franchise cities as well as compiling and organizing the WBA's statistics once the season gets under way.
"I'm excited about the chance to join the WBA," Myers said. "I look forward to helping build the WBA into one of the premier minor leagues out there and am eager to get this league the exposure and publicity it so richly deserves."
The rescheduled Florida Flight-Jacksonville (Fla.) BlueWaves game - which was moved from June 27 to May 11 - will serve as the kickoff to the WBA's seventh season, one that features seven teams in four different states. Along with the Flight, Jacksonville, the Franklin (Tenn.) Knights and the Marietta (Ga.) Storm all are in their first season in the WBA. The holdovers from 2009 are the defending WBA champion Gwinnett (Ga.) Majic, Decatur (Ga.) Court Kings and the Tupelo (Miss.) Rock & Rollers.
The other five teams in the WBA get their season started May 14, with Gwinnett hosting Franklin, Tupelo going to Marietta and Decatur hosting Jacksonville. All three games are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
There are three more games scheduled for May 15, as Decatur heads to Gwinnett, Jacksonville goes to Marietta and Florida is on the road at Tupelo. The Decatur-Gwinnett game tips off at 6 p.m., with the other two contests set to start at 7. The league's opening weekend closes out May 16 with a single 7 p.m. game pitting Florida against the Franklin Knights in Franklin.
Each team will play 16 regular-season games before the playoffs, which are scheduled to start in mid-July. For more information about the WBA Exposure League and the complete 2010 schedule, go to the league's newly updated Web site at www.wbaball.net. The schedule is located on the site's main page under the "Schedule" header.
The WBA Exposure League serves as a training ground to develop players on and off the court. Emphasis is placed on exposure, development, community involvement, and most importantly providing an exciting brand of basketball and entertainment. Hundreds of former WBA players have gone on to play professional basketball all over the world including the D-League and NBA.
