Wayne Bonney and Ray Scapinello Join Officiating Staff

PHOENIX, AZ (July 30, 2014) - The Central Hockey League's (CHL) announced today several changes in the League's officiating department including the return of former National Hockey League officials Wayne Bonney and Ray Scapinello to the CHL. Additionally, it was announced that Bryan Lewis, the CHL Referee-in-Chief for the past three seasons, has retired from his position.
"The CHL wishes to thank Bryan (Lewis) for his numerous invaluable contributions to the League's officiating department," said Steve Ryan, CHL Commissioner. "Under his tutelage, the CHL's referees and linesmen received training and consultation that was second to none, and I speak for all of them in thanking Bryan and wishing him the best moving forward."
Bonney returns to the CHL as the League's Director of Officiating Development. The veteran NHL linesman previously served as the CHL's Supervisor of Officials for seven seasons (2004-2011). While working in the NHL, Bonney skated in 24 seasons working a total of 1,638 regular season games, 228 playoff games, five Stanley Cup Finals, one All-Star Game and he participated in the 1996 World Cup.
Scapinello reunites with Bonney as the Senior Supervisor of Officials for the CHL. One of the best known linesmen in the history of hockey, the Hockey Hall of Famer worked 33 seasons in the NHL, officiating more than 2,500 regular season games and 426 playoff games. He also had the honor of working 20 years in the Stanley Cup Finals while also skating in the World Cup, Canada Cup, as well as the 1998 Olympics in Nagano.
"We are in very good hands with Wayne (Bonney) and Ray (Scapinello)," said Jim Wiley, CHL Director of Hockey Operations. "Their expertise and reputations in the hockey community will help grow the CHL's officiating department and continue in the tradition of providing unmatched professionalism."
