Waugh, Quinn Take Home Week Three NECBL Awards

SOUTH HADLEY, MA - Nathan Waugh (C, Vermont, Cornell) and Braden Quinn (LHP, Danbury, UConn) have been named the Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively, for Week 3 of the 2023 NECBL regular season.
Waugh had a monster week, leading the Mountaineers to a 3-0 record in the games he played, finishing with a .538 average. He belted two homers, drove in seven runs, and had seven hits in thirteen plate appearances. He started the week with a three hit, two-RBI effort in a 14-5 win over the Sanford Mainers, and then followed it up with another multi-hit game in an 8-2 win over Ocean State. He finished the week with a two-hit game where he scored three runs in a 9-2 win against Sanford. Waugh's Mountaineers currently sit in first place in the North Division, sporting an 11-3-1 record throughout the team's first fifteen games.
Waugh had a great junior season in 2023 for Cornell, seeing him lead the team in batting average at .330, posting seven doubles, six homers, and 23 RBI throughout the season in 28 games played. As for his defense, he was named to the Buster Posey Award watch list, after posting a .986 fielding percentage, committing just two errors in 142 chances. He was also named an Honorable Mention All-Ivy Team.
Quinn was dominant on the mound for the Westerners this week, pitching seven innings against Sanford on June 20th, giving up one hit, one run, with two walks and fourteen strikeouts of the 26 batters faced. Quinn has only given up one run this season in three appearances in fourteen innings of work, and has been the backbone of the Westerners pitching staff this season.
Quinn appeared in fourteen games out of UConn's bullpen this season, pitching 7.2 innings and striking out eight. His season high 2.1 innings came in the Big East Championship against Xavier.
