Traverse City North Stars News Release

TRAVERSE CITY - The Traverse City North Stars scored just one goal on Sunday afternoon at Centre ICE Arena, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

The North Stars levied 41 shots at Michigan goaltender Luis Puig, but could not find the back of the net after Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/TC North Stars NAHL) gave the hosts a 1-0 lead 6:35 into the contest - including a late-game flurry that featured numerous opportunities to send the game into overtime.

Puig, making his first start of the season, made a career-high 40 saves to give the Warriors a series split, following the North Stars' 4-1 win on Saturday.

Jake Peacock (Traverse City, Mich./Bay Reps HS) and Michal Toman (Slovakia/TC North Stars NAHL) set up Taulien's first tally of the season - the only goal of the opening period - and Michigan (6-1-1) responded with a pair of markers less than two minutes apart early in the second. The first deflected off a North Stars defender en route to the net, while Zak Thompson rifled the eventual game-winner at 4:19. Traverse City outshot the visitors by a 30-13 margin over the final 40 minutes, but could not get the puck past Puig.

Kyle Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) stopped 19 shots in net for the North Stars (5-1-1), who travel to Kalamazoo next Sunday, Oct. 9 to take on the expansion Jr. K-Wings.
