
Warriors Halt Stampede

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 95-91 in front of a sold-out crowd Sunday night, holding an opponent to under 100 points for the first time this season.
Santa Cruz was paced by Cameron Jones and Kiwi Gardner, who each scored 18 points. Dewayne Dedmon recorded his eighth consecutive double-double with 13 points and 18 rebounds in addition to six blocks, while Daniel Nwaelele chipped in with 13 points.
Idaho was led by Reggie Hearn, who scored a game-high 21 points. Pierre Jackson, the top overall prospect in the NBA D-League, scored 18, while Christian Kabongo added 18 points off the bench, including a 75-foot buzzer beater to end the third quarter.
There were no lead changes in the game. Santa Cruz finished the first quarter ahead by one, and the second quarter was tied three times in the first five minutes. With the game tied at 26 with 7:30 left in the half, the Warriors went on a 19-6 run to take a 45-32 lead at intermission. The Warriors extended their lead to 15, and while the Stampede came within three midway through the fourth quarter, Santa Cruz held on for the victory.
Santa Cruz shot 49.3% from the floor, compared to Idaho's 37.9%. The Stampede shot 31.0% from three, while the Warriors shot 12.5% from distance. Santa Cruz won the battle of the boards (50-42), and had more assists (19-15) and points in the paint (52-38). Idaho held the edge on steals (11-6) and committed fewer turnovers (12-19).
