Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 28, 2017) - Sam Warning's power play goal with 4.8 seconds left in overtime gave the host Quad City Mallards (3-3-0) a 3-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads (2-2-3) Saturday night.
Warning fired the puck in off an Idaho skate to end a night that saw the Mallards' Ivan Kulbakov make 46 saves. With the victory, the Mallards completed a two-game weekend sweep of the Steelheads. The Mallards edged Idaho 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night.
The Steelheads earned one point for the sudden death setback after battling back from a 2-0 second period deficit. The Mallards were on the power play when Matt Pohlkamp scored the game's first goal from the left wing circle at 2:46 of the second . Josh MacDonald- who also had an assist- doubled the Mallard lead by burying Justin Kovacs' centering pass at 6:08. The Steelheads responded with back-to-back second period goals of their own. Mitch Moroz's drive from the left wing circle halved the gap at the 11:14 mark. It was during an Idaho power play that Steven McParland tied the score from slot at 15:01.
The Mallards return to action on home ice next Friday night at 7:05 p.m . against the Indy Fuel. Next Friday's game also brings the return of $2 Dog/$2 Beer Night presented by 97X.
