Schaumburg Flyers News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - Zach Ward (7-5) tossed eight strong innings to lead the Lake County Fielders (31-43) topped the Flyers (29-45) at Alexian Field Tuesday night.

Ward gave up just one run on eight hits in eight innings with nine strikeouts and three walks in the win.

Lake County cracked the scoreboard first with a Joshua Short two run double into right center field.

Schaumburg got on the board with a Travis Brown single to cut the lead to one.

But the Fielders jumped right back on Anthony Esquer's triple down the first base line, plating Kyle Higgins.

Aaron Guinn (0-1) got the nod for Schaumburg and performed well in his Northern League starting debut. The rookie was charged with three runs on six hits in five innings of work with three strikeouts and a walk.

The Flyers fought back with a run in the ninth after Marco Gonzalez walked the bases loaded. Kit Pellow hit a sacrifice fly to plate Ruddy Yan, but the comeback bid fell just short. Gonzalez held on to noctch his second save of the season.

The Flyers continue their four game set with the Fielders at Alexian Field Wednesday evening. Get a complimentary set of Flyers baseball cards at the park! Alain Quijano will take the hill for Schaumburg opposite Lake County's John Brownell.
