Warbirds Score Eight Unanswered in Blowout Win

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds scored eight straight runs against the Hill City Howlers to snatch their 30th comeback win of the season, 8-3, at City Stadium on Saturday night.
Hill City (45-62, 14-27 second half) took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning after scoring on a groundout and a Jose Pirela solo home run.
Wilson (55-49, 19-19 second half) tied the game in the top of the fourth when Brailyn Antunez doubled in the Warbirds' first run of the game and came around to score thanks to a Jose Anderson single.
The Warbirds took a 3-2 lead an inning later as Brady Ebel, whose on-base streak is now at 27 games, hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Filippo Di Turi.
In the seventh inning, Frederi Montero provided a pair of insurance runs, blasting a two-run home run over the right field fence to give Wilson a 5-2 advantage.
Kevin Garcia singled in another in the ninth, and Handelfry Encarnacion provided the exclamation point, hammering his 11th home run of the season to push the lead to 8-2.
Hayden Robinson (W, 4-4) provided an excellent start on the mound, throwing five strong innings. Miqueas Mercedes (S, 1) held Hill City to just one run through four innings of work to secure the 8-3 win.
Ryan DeSanto (L, 3-2) was the losing pitcher for the Howlers.
Having clinched the split, Wilson can win the series tomorrow in the finale at 2:00 p.m. RHP Tyler Renz (2-5, 4.38) will start for the Warbirds against RHP Erigaldi Perez (4-5, 5.43).
