Walmart and Stampede Host "Fill the Truck" to benefit Salvation Army Harrisburg Toy Drive

HARRISBURG, PA (Dec 4, 2013) - This weekend, December 6-8 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., The Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital City Region will partner with Walmart, located at 6535 Grayson Road and the Harrisburg Stampede Professional Indoor Football team to host "Fill the Truck" toy drive to provide new toys and coats to local children in need this Christmas.
During this weekend long event, The Salvation Army, Stampede and Walmart will encourage members of the general public to donate new toys and coats for the children who participate in the organization's youth programs. "We feel very blessed and honored to support such a wonderful initiative" says Marques Colston, President/GM of the Harrisburg Stampede. "The mission of our organization, at it's core, is to have a positive impact on the community we live and work in. Supporting the Salvation Army and helping to bring a cheerful Christmas to our children is what it's all about."
As shoppers enter Walmart, they will be greeted by members of the Crush Dance Team, the Stampede's newly formed dance team, and will be given a list of suggested gifts to help fill the Salvation Army truck boxes. Once the boxes are full, the Salvation Army will sort and package the toys and distribute them to local children in need. "We have a tremendous need and it continues to grow every year. We are very thankful to community partners like Walmart and the Harrisburg Stampede for ensuring our kids can look forward to a warm and cheerful Christmas", says Kathy Anderson-Martin, Director of Philanthropy, Salvation Army Harrisburg Capital Region.
This collection, along with the Harrisburg Capital City Region Giving Tree and Adopt-a-Family programs, are expected to provide gifts for more than 3,000 local children this Christmas.
